Set on the lush alien world of Pandora, humans are mining a valuable mineral, threatening the native Na’vi people. Paraplegic former Marine Jake Sully is recruited for the Avatar Program, allowing him to remotely control a genetically engineered Na’vi body. As he learns the ways of the Na’vi, Jake grows close to Neytiri, a Na’vi warrior, and ultimately must choose between his loyalty to humanity and his newfound connection to Pandora. The film combines breathtaking 3D visuals with themes of environmentalism, colonialism, and empathy.
